Family leaves Cairns sunshine for Gladstone rain
THE Murfet family expected to be greeted by more of the same sunshine and beautiful weather as they're used to when they moved to Gladstone from Cairns.
But instead, they have been welcomed to their new home with a rather major downpour.
The family moved to Gladstone on Sunday. They had a few days of sunshine before the cloud cover settled in on Thursday.
Hollie Murfet, 5, had her brolly in hand on Thursday as she strolled out of school for her third day at Gladstone Central Primary.
Her dad, Justin, said when it was raining she was either jumping in puddles or playing with her Barbies inside.
"She doesn't mind getting a little dirty. She's definitely not a princess," he said.
Mr Murfet said they welcomed the central Queensland climate, compared to the humid weather they had had at Cairns.
"The cool change is nice. There's a nice sea breeze which is a bit of change to the humidity that we're used to in Cairns."
Ironically, they left their hometown when it was 28 degrees with the sun shining.
"We hope to check out some of the local beaches and lakes that we've been reading about this weekend if it clears up," he said.
The rain is expected to continue today with heavy pours predicted, but it will ease by Saturday.
