It's super Saturday

BITS PLAYER Craig Jones says the return of striker Dominic Stockdale will boost the team ahead of the Football Central Queensland division three grand final against Meteors today.

Jones hopes the day will bring another flag to add to the one he won in his first season.

"It's been a long time since BITS have won a flag,” Jones said.

The defensive centre-back added the heat will be on from the start, but it is the warmth of the Gladstone weather that was another attraction many years ago.

"I have been here for 15 years and am from Melbourne originally before I moved here for work,” Jones said.

His counterpart will be Alex Weatherby hopes to help Meteors to yet another flag.

"It's not going to be easy and we need to do most things right,” Weatherby said.

"It's finals football and anything can happen.”

Weatherby added the division three competition is strong and because it's a locally based format, it suits players who do not enjoy the travel aspect as those who play in the Premier League.

The Gladstone United club celebrates its 50th anniversary and what better way than to celebrate with a premiership.

But first the United division four side needs to beat Clinton. "We beat them and they beat us, so it's going to be a tight and tough game,” Gladstone United player Bryce Manning said.

"We had the privilege in beating BITS in the preliminary final, but it's all about keeping our formations and to have a solid defence and keeping possession.”

Two Meteor teams will collide in the A Division women's decider from 5pm tomorrow. Meteor Rites veteran Jean Van Vegchel hopes her team breaks its grand final hoodoo when they play Meteors.

"We played in grand finals in the past three years, but with no wins,” Van Vegchel said.

"The only way we can turn it around is to take our chances.”

Meteors' Sophie Lamberton, who kicked the only goal in the major semi-final two weeks ago, said she predicted the two Meteor teams would meet in the decider at the start of the season.
