Coles checkout operator makes people's day

SHE'S got a killer smile, quick wit and an adoring fan base.

Checkout operator Tina Sears has worked at Coles Stockland for 13 years and she loves every day of it.

The mother-of-one works full-time and most of the time she can be found on register four.

"I worked for the government before but here you get to interact with people," she said.

"You get to know people's families and see the kids grow up."

The shop's customer service manager Veronica Granzien couldn't speak highly enough of her employee.

"We have customers who will line up just to be served by Tina. They won't move," she said.

"She makes people's days that bit brighter being on the register."

Ms Granzien said it took a "special kind of person to do checkout operation" but Tina takes it all in her stride.

"She can always make you smile and she's a pleasure to work with," she said.

The public loves her cheeky grin and friendly nature, almost as much as her colleagues do.

"Some people bring Tina a present for her birthday and Christmas," Ms Granzien said.

Coles customer and Miriam Vale resident Fallan Willis loves Ms Sears.

"She is just so lovely, polite and friendly," she said.

"She never rushes you through the checkout and always makes you feel important. We go an extra few minutes to Gladstone Coles most weeks hoping to see her."

Ms Sears is also a supervisor. She starting working fulltime two years ago and has worked her way up the ranks.

"Eventually I increased my hours," she said. "I am really quick on the register now."

Racking up another 13 years might be on the cards for the 53-year-old who just built a new house in Gladstone.

"I will be 85 and still be here," she joked.
