An 'Earl(y) X-mas for some in final round of the Qld Champs

MOTORSPORT: Gladstone's Brett Kelly has claimed the series win in the Super Street Class in the final round of the Summit Racing Equipment Queensland Championship Series on Saturday night.

He claimed the title from runner-up Zarron Titmarsh from Rockhampton.

There was also Gladstone success for Laurie Bonato who took out the 'Xmas Tree Trophy' in the Super Sedan category ahead of Mick Adams.

Earl McCallum, of Gladstone, won on the night in front of Hervey Bay's Brett Miller.

Central Queensland Drag Racing Association president Col O'Connor said it was a successful afternoon and evening.

"Quite a few of the locals took home some Xmas Trees and competition was real good with just some small delays, but no real dramas," he said.

Gladstone youngsters Hunter Oliver and Reuben Mann were first and second overall in the Junior Bike division.

Harrison Thwaite, of Bundaberg, completed a great season and won the top gong in the Junior Dragster division while Sarah Langridge and Tracy Rieck were top two in the Street category.

Street Bike winners were Matt Halpin and Shane Simpson.

Noel Bartley will take his Xmas Tree trophy back to Bundaberg after he claimed the Modified Bike class.

Mackay's Dale Sonogan won the Modified class ahead of Katie Cunningham and she also won the series.

Meanwhile the penultimate round of the CQDRA Championships is on October 20 with finals a month later on November 24.
