Italy's tactics underhanded says Eddie Jones

RUGBY UNION: England rugby coach Eddie Jones has compared Italy's bizarre tactics in its 36-15 Six nations loss to Trevor Chappell's infamous under-arm delivery to deny New Zealand the chance of getting a tie with a six off the last ball in a one-day international in 1981.

Australian Jones was left frustrated and agitated despite the win stretching England's unbeaten run to 17 - one off equalling the world record of games undefeated held by the All Blacks.

The Italians did not send any player to the breakdown, meaning a ruck was not formed and their players could not be ruled offside while standing in the England backline.

"Well, obviously they've (Italy) been watching Trevor Chappell with the underarm bowl along the ground to make sure they couldn't hit a six," Jones said.

"I'm sure Trevor Chappell would've been happy today."

The victory kept England on course for back-to-back grand slams but the victory was almost forgotten because of Italy's unusual tactics.

"That wasn't rugby today, if that's rugby I'm going to retire, I don't want to be involved in that," Jones added.

"If your halfback can't pass the ball, there's something wrong with the game. If the 10 can't see the ball, how do you play rugby?

"We lost the ruck from the game and it ceases to become rugby so if you paid for your ticket, ask for your money back.

"I can't answer questions on rugby because there wasn't any today."
