Bushy, quiet Kirkwood is about quality of life

WITH its attractive semi-bushland setting just minutes away from Gladstone's CBD, its own busy shopping centre and the walking pathways for exercise; it comes as no surprise that the Kirkwood area offers its residents value for their property investment.

Despite the fall in the housing market across Gladstone from its peak some years ago at the height of the massive construction development the city went through, Kirkwood continues to be a leader in property values.

There are still empty lots of land in the various housing estates but for the families attracted to the area like that of Glenn and Chantal Galea, they would not live anywhere else.

Mr Galea said the couple purchased their block seven years ago and built their family home.

Despite the drop in property values he remains confident that if they were ever to sell they would recoup their mortgage and be ahead.

We were able to get a relatively cheap block of land at the time and we do keep an eye on the market values and know there are plenty of houses for sale and that there has been a drop in values.

"I think if we ever do sell I don't think we would make a profit but should be able to sell to cover our mortgage and costs," Mr Galea said.

"We did get into the market before the peak and did well with the land.

"It's quiet and it's the lifestyle for us. It's close to amenities, shops, schools and parks. For families it's good."
