Isla has the need to speed on track

ISLA Laurent has had this weekend marked on her calendar for the whole year, and can't wait to hit Benaraby Raceway on Saturday.

Competing in the All Bike drag racing meeting at the track, Laurent will be one of nearly 200 entrants trying to take time off their personal best.

Riding her 2012 Kawasaki ZX-14R, Laurent may not be in the serious bunch of riders, but is ready to soak up every moment of the event.

Having started in drag racing six years ago, the Gladstone rider first had a Harley Davidson she raced at Benaraby.

Two years ago, she decided an upgrade was due, and made sure to buy a bike she could also ride on the road.

"I ride it down there, race and ride home," she said. "I probably ride a couple of weekends a month."

Keeping the Kawasaki stock, Laurent has no ambitions to be a world beater on the track.

She is just as keen to get out this weekend and talk to like-minded people and see what other people are riding at ridiculous speeds on the raceway.

"I have done 10.4 seconds... it is 143.96mph," she said.

"The best part about all bikes is it is fun and the social side of it all."
