Man charged over Biloela teen fatality found dead

IN a double tragedy, a 28-year-old man is believed to have taken his own life the morning after he was charged over the death of Rockhampton teenager Kurtis West.

A police spokesman confirmed late Wednesday they were investigating the death of a 28-year-old man at Argoon.

She said he had not been in custody at the time of his death, and a report was being prepared for the coroner.

Police on Tuesday revealed Kurtis died after a traffic accident on Jambin- Dakenba Rd on January 10.

The Wandal teenager was the passenger on a motorcycle ridden by the 28-year-old man when he was fatally injured.

He was found by a passing motorist, who tried desperately to save the life of 18-year-old Kurtis as he lay on the side of the road, but it was too late.

Police were notified of the body about 4am. Kurtis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 28-year-old Argoon man was charged on Tuesday with one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death or grievous bodily harm, and leaving the scene of an incident without obtaining help.

He was also charged with driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle.

Det Snr Agt Scott Moon said it was unknown whether Kurtis was conscious when police arrived, and he couldn't comment on the extent of his injuries.

He thanked the communities of Jambin and Biloela for their assistance.
