International cuisine on deck as takeaway re-opens

A TASTE of international cuisine is back on the menu in Seventeen Seventy.

The Deck Restaurant and takeaway reopened last month with new owners, new chefs and a new menu - with an emphasis on the tastes of Asia.

Owners Suresh Jindal and Ash Chadha have brought a team of international chefs to The Discovery Coast, adding a refreshing variation of fine food available in Seventeen Seventy and Agnes Water.

The takeaway opened early to give locals and visitors a taste of what is to come when the restaurant proper opens soon.

While awaiting council approval, the staff is trying out new menus at the takeaway and refurbishing the kitchen and restaurant.

The installation of a gas-fired tandoor oven means naan, kulcha and other delicious oven-baked Asian flatbreads will soon be available to go with the Indian, Mexican, Spanish and Italian cuisine.

Indian chef TJ has experience in northern and southern Indian cooking, plus a mix of Asian fusion.

"I worked at the Ceylon Inn restaurants in Brisbane and cook a number of different authentic Indian curries, plus delicious entrees," TJ said.

"We are just setting up the (tandoor) oven and it should be going very soon."

Indonesian chef Riz Ali Thalib brings his vast international experience in Spanish, Mexican and Italian cooking, having worked in Sydney and overseas at various top eateries and hotels.

The Deck takeaway is open from Tuesday to Sunday (10am to 7.30pm). Phone 4974 9157.
