INTERACTIVE: Kindy spots still available 1 week out of term
THREE Gladstone region kindergartens still have spots left for the first term of 2016, just one week away.
Normally Gladstone region kindergartens have exceeding waiting lists with no problems with filling their spots.
But for some, the transient work nature has left them welcoming more new families, with some still looking for children to fill their groups.
Birralee Kindergarten president Denise Conley said they had many new families signed up for this year.
"It's not just Gladstone - we've heard that Yeppoon has low enrolments as well.
"For us we're usually consistently full," Ms Conley said.
Ms Conley said it was the first year since industry in Gladstone boomed that they had not had full groups.
She said many of their regular families had now moved towns.
For the Calliope Community Kindergarten, their vacancies are for term two when their new building is ready.
They still have 17 places left.
Construction started on the second building late last year, three years after Calliope was declared a 'high need' area for kindergarten facilities by the state government.
