Insanely savage 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series

FOR this week's blog, we will be looking at the beast that is the 2012 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series.

As with all of the signature Black Series models, the C63 BS is meaner and faster than the standard C63 AMG.

Compared with its counterpart, this model features a 28mm wider front axle, 48mm wider rear axle, a front splitter, a more aggressive and aerodynamic front bumper, insanely flared wheel arches, bonnet nostrils, an updated rear bumper, and some engine enhancements.

While we are on the topic of engines, this Merc' is equipped with a 6.2-litre naturally aspirated V8 engine which is capable of producing up to 380kW (517 hp) at 6800rpm and 620 Nm of torque (457 lb-ft of torque) at 5200rpm. This is a whopping 44kW (66 hp) more power than a standard C63 AMG.

The engine in the Black Edition also shares its forged pistons, lightweight crankshaft, and the connecting rods with the much more expensive SLS AMG. The result of this is a lighter, stronger, and more powerful engine.

This gearbox then sends the full 380kW through a limited-slip rear differential then to the rear wheels.

This particular model also has a kerb weight of 1710 kilograms.

The C63 Black Series is able to launch from 0-100 kilometres per hour in just 4.2 seconds, and it will keep accelerating until it reaches its electronically limited top speed of 300 kilometres per hour (186 miles per hour).

Some other features that this C63 AMG Black Series is equipped with includes 19-inch 10-spoke forged alloy wheels wrapped in performance tires, MacPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, a front and rear stabiliser bar, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, electronic brake force distribution, Xenon headlights along with daytime running lights, AMG carbon fibre exterior and interior packages, a leather/alcantara interior with front sport seats, dual-zone climate controls, and much more.

Mercedes-Benz originally planned to build only 650 examples of the C63 AMG Black Series, but when the customers demanded more to be made, they upped that number to just 800.

Australia, on the other hand, received only 32 examples of the most expensive C-Class ever offered.

When Mercedes Australia were selling these models, they had a base-price of $245,000 AUD plus on-road costs.
