Information day to help people prepare for storm season

RESIDENTS in the Baffle Creek, Rosedale and Lowmead areas will have the chance to plan their preparation and recovery strategies for possible natural disasters ahead of the upcoming storm season at a family information day.

The event, to be hosted by the Baffle Creek Catchment (BCC) Local Emergency Coordination Committee (LECC), will be conducted at the Rosedale Community Hall on October 20.

Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers said the information session, to be conducted from 8am to 2pm, would be held in conjunction with the Queensland Government's Get Ready Queensland strategy.

"'Get Ready Queensland' is designed to build the resilience of local communities to deal with the extreme weather and natural disasters that are a part of living in Queensland, aiming to make the state the most disaster resilient in Australia," Cr Sellers said.

"Residents within the Baffle Creek, Rosedale and Lowmead areas are encouraged to attend the Family Information Day and discuss natural disaster strategies with BCC LECC members and other residents in the area."

Get Ready Week runs from October 14 to 20 and encourages councils, government agencies, businesses, community groups, not-for-profit organisations and individuals to work together to ensure they, their families and communities are ready for potential storms, cyclones and floods during the summer season.
