Impostor Harry fools women looking for Prince Charming

CHANNEL 10 has picked up the controversial US series where women compete for the affections of a man they think is Prince Harry.

The "reality" series features 12 women who compete for the attention of Matthew Hicks, who bears a striking resemblance to the British Royal.

Hicks, a single bloke from Exeter, plays the role of Prince Charming convincingly enough to fool the dozen American beauties, although it's easy for many of us in the Commonwealth to spot the difference.

Even though the show does not debut in the US until May 27, it has already received plenty of attention from the media.

Each week, Hicks (or "Sir" as the ladies call him) handpicks one woman to take on an extravagant adventure, while at the same time he must pick another to leave the estate.

When the impostor prince narrows down his choice to one woman, he will finally have to admit the truth about his royal masquerade.

Network Ten's Chief Programming Officer Beverley McGarvey calls the series "pure fun" and escapism".

"Although it hasn't launched yet, the online buzz surrounding this show overseas is enormous," she said.

"It is rapidly becoming a television event."

There's no doubt Ten is hoping the dating series will have similar success to last year's divisive first series of The Bachelor Australia.

I Wanna Marry Harry will air "soon" on Ten.
