Ice and pipe found hidden in man's underpants

A MAN found with a small amount of ice and a pipe for smoking it tucked into his underpants had been placed on probation for similar offending hours earlier.

Police prosecutor Julia Wheaton told Toowoomba Magistrates Court a police patrol had followed a car into the Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre car park on the afternoon of August 2.

When Kyle Matthew Parkinson and a woman friend alighted from the car, the officers approached.

Taking out his mobile phone, Parkinson also produced a small plastic clip seal bag containing 0.1g of crystal substance which contained a small amount of methylamphetamine.

He also had a glass pipe tucked down the back of his underpants, Senior Constable Wheaton said.

Magistrate Damian Carroll noted Parkinson had been placed on 18 months probation by the same court earlier that day.

However, a Probation and Parole officer said the order hadn't had time to take effect and recommended the order continue.

Duty solicitor Chelsea Salumbide told the court her client instructed he had not used drugs since being on the probation order and had been subject to drug tests.

Mr Carroll fined him $600.
