Hwy funds stoush

A POLITICAL slanging match has erupted over the state of the Bruce Hwy after Nationals' leader Warren Truss inspected the section in the Gladstone region this week.

During his inspection of the Benaraby Rd turn-off earlier this week, Mr Truss said the Opposition, if elected, would consider additional funding of about $5 billion for the Bruce Hwy.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese yesterday attacked Mr Truss's position on the highway, saying he could not guarantee any funds.

He accused Mr Truss of admitting he hadn't been able to convince his Coalition colleagues to commit to a spending target for upgrading the Bruce Hwy.
