Gladstone representative team hungry for cricket final win
A CLIFFHANGER loss to Rockhampton this season has Gladstone fired up for a grand final win.
Gladstone representative team captain Michael Heymer said the competition between the two clubs was fierce.
"There is a fair bit of rivalry to see who can get the victory," Heymer said.
He said Gladstone had had two really good wins so far this season and one close loss to Rockhampton, losing by one run on the last ball.
"It would be good to get a victory," he said.
After holiday breaks and T20 matches in the local competition, Heymer said the two-day competition which started this weekend would lift the team ahead of next Sunday's representative final.
"The two-dayer will hopefully help people get some form," he said.
With good batters to knock up a high total, Heymer said he thought the bowlers would decide the match. "If we bowl well, we'll win the game," he said. "We have a quality bowling attack. If they bowl well we should be sweet."
With both the open and under-21 teams hosting home grand finals against Rockhampton, Heymer said he hoped Gladstone would show some support for their teams.
"It would be good to get some people down there to cheer us on," he said.
Gladstone will host the representative cricket finals on Sunday, February 17
