Hundreds farewell loved businessman
JOHN Macauley Beale sadly passed on August 15, 2011.
Born on September 4, 1948, John attended Yeronga and Salisbury State High School in Brisbane where he met his bride Halina.
John then went on to do his apprenticeship at Sargeants Engineering in Brisbane before moving to Gladstone in 1970.
John worked for many companies including Kaiser Engineering, Anchor Engineering and Gladstone Engineering before starting his own business - Mika Engineering in 1977.
It was after John started his own business that he built his dream boat 'Mikat' during a quiet time in the industry so as to keep his staff employed.
His wife often referred to Mikat as 'the other woman' and it is now a whale watching and fishing charter vessel business, run by his son Michael.
John loved his sport and was a keen supporter of the gun club, Gladstone Golf Club and the Hockey Association.
He was very proud of his town, spending hours driving visitors all over the region showing them how the city had grown and why it was a great place to live.
His memorial service was held at Palm Point at the Gladstone Marina - close to his beloved Harbour - and was attended by hundreds of people.
Gladstone Regional Councillor Col Chapman said that this was "An indication of the manner of the man and the regard with which he was held."
