HUMAN remains were found inside a car in Awoonga Dam, police announced this morning.
The car --- a Holden Colorado --- belonged to missing Boyne Valley man Kurt Kempton, police said.
Police have been investigating Kurt Kempton's disappearance since September 2014.
Detective Senior Seargent Luke Peachey said police were alerted to the car on Saturday afternoon.
"On Saturday afternoon police were directed to an area along the Gladstone Monto Rd at Lake Awoonga, during which police have discovered a motor vehicle partly submerged in the water.
"That vehicle was removed, during which police have located the remains of a person inside the vehicle.
The dam is the main water supply of the Gladstone region.
Heartfelt tributes have poured onto the Facebook page of Kurt's mum Jacqui after she wrote "he is no longer with us … we love you my boy and I miss you everyday".
HEARTFELT tributes have poured onto the Facebook page of the mum of a Boyne Valley man who went missing 16 months ago after she confirmed "he is no longer with us".
Police discovered a car that belonged to Kurt Kempton with human remains in it.
Mum Jacqui Kempton and husband Warren courageously told The Observer in August last year of how their son's life had spiralled out of control as he battled an ice addiction.
"But he's our son and he's got to be found," Mrs Kempton plead, with Kurt missing for 11 months.
Last night Mrs Kempton posted a Facebook tribute to her son, telling Facebook friends the agonising wait for the safe return of their son had come to an end.
"It is with great sadness that we let you all know that our boy Kurt Kempton has been found. Sadly he is no longer with us except in our wonderful memories of him," she wrote.
"To his many old friends thank you all for being his friend.
"We love you my boy and I miss you every day. Fnd peace my son and I will see you again one day All our love Mum xoxoxoxo."
Police wouldn't confirm Kurt's death --- only saying a car was found that belonged to him and remains were found in it.
"[Police] said they couldn't confirm that it was his remains. But the car was found and remains were found in it," a police spokeswoman said.
"Obviously [the] 10 O'clock [press conference] is going to shed more light on that."
