WATCH: Human remains found on property on Park Avenue street
UPDATE 4PM: THE first residents of Macalister St at Park Avenue knew of human remains found on the banks of a nearby creek on Saturday was police knocking on their door.
Neighbours say the usually quiet street came alive on Saturday afternoon when police, detectives and forensics swarmed onto a residential backyard which bordered a creek inlet off the Fitzroy River.
A resident said he was"very much" surprised by the discovery.
"I wouldn't dream for something like that to happen here," he said.
"It's normally very quiet, it very much surprises me."
Police investigations are continuing.
UPDATE SUNDAY 9.20AM: POLICE are unable to advise as to the condition of the human remains found on the edge of a creek in Park Avenue yesterday morning.
Police media was not able to confirm the remains were bones as reported by other media over night or who found the remains.
UPDATE: 5:30pm: POLICE said the human remains were located on the edge of a creek that runs off the Fitzroy River.
They were found around 9am Saturday.
A crime scene has been established, and forensic officers and detectives from the Rockhampton Criminal Investigation Branch are investigating the discovery.
INITIAL: POLICE are investigating after human remains were found on a property on Macalister St Park Avenue this morning.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Moon said forensic services were engaged with the investigation.
"It's early days where human remains have been located," he said.
"At this point we are conducting our investigations as if anything is suspicious until otherwise proven.
"We have our forensic services engaged in our investigation, they're currently conducting examinations of the scene at which time we will receive further advice from them.
"The remains were found this morning and we have been on scene since that time."
