Hughes gets the boot after shock FA Cup loss

STOKE City have sacked manager Mark Hughes just hours after the English Premier League side lost to fourth-tier Coventry City in the FA Cup Third Round.

The Potters are sitting third from bottom in the English Premier League after a poor run of form and the 2-1 defeat at Ricoh Arena proved a step too far for Hughes.

Hughes had survived a damaging home loss at Newcastle in the league on Monday, even though that result helped to drop Stoke into the relegation zone.

But he wasn't given any more time after the FA Cup upset.

Coventry won the FA Cup in 1987 but are now languishing in League Two.

But Jack Grimmer grabbed the winner in the 68th minute, after Charlie Adam's penalty for Stoke cancelled out the home team's opener by Jordan Willis.

Bournemouth almost followed Stoke out of the competition but a late equaliser.

The Cherries were rescued by Steve Cook, whose injury-time header earned a replay after 2013 Cup winners Wigan had led 2-0.

Leicester City also had a last-minute scare at League One Fleetwood Town when goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic saw a shot strike the post, rebound into his face, and hit the post again before a relieved Jakupovic got both hands on the ball.

The Foxes survived to earn a replay after a 0-0 draw.

EPL bottom club Swansea also earned a 0-0 draw at Championship leaders Wolves.

Meanwhile Sergio Aguero fired Manchester City to a 4-1 win over Burnley and Chelsea struggled in a 0-0 stalemate at Championship outfit Norwich City.
