After losing almost 50kg, he's ready to take on marathon
STEPHEN Lamont will have an extra busy weekend this weekend.
He'll take part in the LayZee Runners club's Twilight Run tonight and half a marathon on Sunday.
It's been an enormous turn around for Mr Lamont, who weighed 140kg three years ago.
"I used to be a sporty person, but I gave it all away," he said.
"(I) started eating, started drinking a couple of cordials too many.
"I was huffing and puffing ... I was uncomfortable."
Now at 92kg Mr Lamont is energetic and said it was all thanks to Mackay's LayZee Runners club.
"(I) did the Marina Run first year, five kilometres, and then we all just took it up on Saturday morning," he said.
"We got the brother-in-law, my little nephews, my sister-in-law, they all came; we almost had a little tribe."
Now it was his family that kept Mr Lamone motivated.
"We all go there at five o'clock, every Saturday," he said.
"The people there, you know, the motivation is just fantastic".
Tonight the club will be joined by hundreds from around the region, running to promote men's health, awareness and wellbeing.
From 5.30pm Mr Lamont will run with his family to show his healthy changes.
"I've known a lot of blokes who've had heart attacks and they're only 40, 50 years of age, and I think to myself 'It's too young'," he said.
"Is the beer gut worth it?"
