Loco sails into third

LOCAL husband and wife team Jon and Jeanine Drummond are ecstatic after securing third spot in the Super 30's division at Airlie Beach Race Week.

The couple, who have recently purchased a new boat, Loco, took an all-Gladstone crew of nine sailors to the 21st annual Airlie Beach Race Week regatta.

After 10 races Loco held a top-three position for the entire week, finishing in third spot.

“Thursday's race was abandoned due to no wind and we were sitting in second spot when the race was called off so we will never know how it would have ended if we had finished that race,” Jon said.

The crew of seven sailors and two shore crew had been sailing together for 18 months on the boat Piranha. Jon and Jeanine received their new boat at the end of May and Airlie Beach Race Week was her maiden voyage.

“We are very happy with the result, the crew sailed well together and everyone did their roles perfectly.”

“Our next race will be club racing in Gladstone which kicks off in about two week's time,” Jon said.
