Couple travel from Adelaide to rescue Hervey Bay poodle

HOW far would you travel to collect a lovable poodle to accept into your home?

Married Adelaide couple Ross and Brenda Allerton are used to travelling thousands of kilometres for their furry friends.

The sweet couple is on their way back home after visiting Hervey Bay to rescue Bob.

The pair spent three days travelling to Hervey Bay to pick-up Bob from the Wide Bay Animal Rescue.

"He's the sweetest little thing," Ms Allerton said.

"We found him online and he was beautiful."

The couple said there weren't many rescue poodles in Adelaide.

Ms Allerton said there were plenty in Western Australia and Queensland, she believes due to there being more breeders.

And Wide Bay Animal Rescue co-ordinator Marie Barnes has received praise from the interstate visitors.

"Marie does an amazing job out there," Ms Allerton said.

"She doesn't just care for the pets, she loves them."

This isn't the first time the couple have travelled for their pets.

Four years ago, they packed their motorhome and travelled from Adelaide to Coffs Harbour to pick up six-year-old Rusty.

Rusty and Bob will now live a happy life with the Allerton's in Adelaide.
