WATCH: Hot pool action at Yaralla this week
EIGHTBALL: Hundreds of hungry pool sharks will descend on Yaralla Sports Club over the coming days for the CQ Zone Trials and Championships.
Places in August's State Championships are up for grabs for competitors across a variety of divisions.
Central Queensland Cue Sports secretary Gregg Dingle says the eight-ball action will take place every day until Sunday.
"Today was our first event - the CQ Masters event for over 50s," Dingle said.
"Yesterday is the men's and women's zone playoff to advance to the state team playoff.
"Friday and Saturday will be the CQ City v Country event where we have approximately 220 athletes playing and on Sunday there's the A-grade, B-grade, C-grade and Women's singles which are all separate events."
Gladstone are hosting its third event in a row this year after previous competitions were held at Tannum Sands in 2015 and Yaralla in 2016.
Gladstone 8-Ball Association secretary Sandie Wright expects the Zone Trials to move to another Central Queensland location next year.
"We try to give every association a chance to host it because it's a great event," Wright said.
"Friday and Saturday is when everyone will be here and the place will be choccas at that time.
"Especially at the finals on Saturday that will be the fun part."
Wright said any interested spectators are welcome to attend.
"We'd like people to come down and watch," she said.
"There's no charge - just wander in and watch some good pool being played."
