Hornets ready for the G20

F/A 18A Hornets have arrived at RAAF Base Amberley as the base ramps up its support to the G20 Summit in Brisbane.

Security training and familiarisation around the Amberley Restrictive Airspace over the next 10 days will be conducted in preparation for Brisbane city to host the G20 Leaders Summit on November 15-16.

This training is designed to provide a realistic test of Australian Defence Force skills, in co-operation with the Queensland Police and Australian Government agencies, to enable a rapid response to any emergency situation.

The Senior Australian Defence Force Officer, Group Captain Simon Sauer said the training would be conducted from RAAF Base Amberley with aircraft including fighter, Wedgetail and air-to-air refueller aircraft.

"The training over the next 10 days will allow ADF members to boost their operational capability as well as enhance inter-agency security response skills," Group Captain Sauer said.

"The training may result in some noise disturbance and will include both day and night flying.

"The Australian Defence Force seeks in all instances to minimise the disruption to residents whilst providing realistic training to its members and thanks the local residents and businesses in the Brisbane and Ipswich regions for their continued support and understanding during this important training period."

He said flying was not planned over this weekend.
