Late Cyril Golding to be honoured with uni doctorate

INDUSTRY stalwart, philanthropist and local legend the late Cyril Golding will be recognised with an honorary doctorate in engineering at CQUniversity's graduation ceremony on Thursday.

Cyril Golding (1920-2012) was a local businessman with a huge heart.

His philanthropic contribution to CQUniversity enabled a library to be built on the Gladstone campus, and his company, Golding Contractors, employed more than 1000 people in mining and construction.

An honorary doctorate will also be awarded to long-serving head of CQUniversity's Gladstone campus, Rex Metcalfe.

A total of 35 graduates including one PhD graduate will cross the stage during the event scheduled for the Leo Zussino Building on CQUniversity Gladstone.

QAL GM Mike Dunstan will be the guest speaker and education graduate Hannah Waddell will respond on behalf of graduates.

Entertainment will be provided by Bachelor of Theatre graduate Brett O'Neill.
