Police dig up back yard in search for man

UPDATE 4PM: Police investigating the suspicious disappearance of a 58-year-old man have located a fridge or freezer during an excavation of the man's back yard.

Vision released by Queensland Police today showed detectives from Ipswich's CIB and the State Homicide Squad supervising a dig at David Thornton's property.

Police this morning announced they were launching an investigation into the Goodna man's disappearance.

They said he was last seen between the end of January and the afternoon of February 22 in the North Ipswich and Goodna areas.

Concerns are held for his safety as he has not returned home or contacted friends of family, this behaviour is out of character and he has a medical condition.

He is described as Caucasian, approximately 180cm, grey/white hair, blue eyes and a grey/white beard.

Detectives have started an investigation centre at Yamanto Police Station and are appealing for anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Mr Thornton.

DETECTIVES from the Queensland homicide police are involved in the disappearance of a Goodna man.

David Thornton, 58, was last seen between the end of January and the afternoon of February 22 in the North Ipswich and Goodna areas.

Detectives from Ipswich Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the State Homicide Investigation Unit, are currently conducting inquiries into what they are calling a suspicious disappearance.

Police said there are concerns for his safety as he has not returned home, nor contacted friends and family.
