UPDATE 12.50pm: THE Spring St home that was destroyed by fire on Friday night was abandoned.
Spring St resident Narelle Smith, who lives behind the house destroyed by fire, said she was alerted to the blaze by her two dogs Zeus and Buddy.
"I was just in the lounge room watching TV and the dogs were just barking and barking," Narelle said.
"Then the power flickered on and off so I said to Scott (her husband), 'can you go and see what the dogs are barking at?'
"But then I turned and saw the wall in our entrance was orange and automatically knew there was a fire.
"I yelled that there was a fire and Scott came running out - he actually thought it was his excavator - but then we noticed it was the house next door so we both came running down.
"Scott had to go up the top of the block and get the hose and then he came down with the hose and I rang the fire brigade."
