PHOTOS: Kids use holiday time to learn to swim

When it's time to cool down after a hot summer's day, the pool is where most of us go.

For these splashing youngsters learning to swim is not only enjoyable but important too.

At the Gladstone Aquatic Centre the learn to swim program goes year round and involves teaching kids who are stepping in the water for the first time, right through to kids who are entering into squad level.

"While it's school holidays we run an intensive program so that kids don't lose touch with their swimming during the break," Tanya Page said.

"As part of the intensives program we get fewer students than we're use to but they swim everyday for a week leading up to Christmas."
