Hockey’s best senior and junior teams to compete in

GLADSTONE'S under 13 boy's and girl's and the under 15 girl's hockey teams will compete in this long weekend's Junior Central Queensland Zone Carnival in Mackay which commences this Sunday until Monday.

The senior women's team does not miss out on any of the action with the Gladstone team to play in the Open Women State Championships in Brisbane from tomorrow through to Monday.

Under 15 player Bree Bunyan believes her side has what it takes to get success. "I think it's going to be a strong competition, but we should do well because we have a strong side," Bree said.

She has been pleased with her form for Souths and she will be a valuable player because of her versatility. "I play anywhere I have been put," Bree added.

The junior competition consists of the format in which each team play each other once with crossover games and a final at the end of the carnival.

The seniors have two pools of round-robin matches with finals on Monday.

Hockey Queensland regional development manager Jordyn Wilson said the women's team has extra motivation. "With the team we have I'd like to think we should make at least the semi-final, if not go further," Wilson said. The side finished runner-up last year.
