Hockeyroos draw strength from criticism

AUSTRALIA is still in contention to finish top of Pool B at the Champions Trophy in Argentina after a 1-1 draw with the hosts.

Disappointed with his team's inconsistency in the opening 2-1 win against England, Hockeyroos coach Adam Commens was much happier after an absorbing contest against one of the tournament favourites.

"It was a really promising performance by our young team against the world's No.3 side in front of their home crowd," Commens said.

"It was a really exciting, entertaining match. I thought both teams played well and for us everyone contributed, which is what I'd asked for after the England game."

Emily Smith (pictured) opened the scoring for the Hockeyroos just before half-time, before eight-time world player of the year Luciana Aymar levelled with eight minutes on the clock.

Australia will take on Germany in its final Pool B match tomorrow morning.
