Historic Origin for Gladstone Rugby League Girls

RUGBY LEAGUE: Good old- fashioned passion and pride in the Queensland maroon jersey will be the ultimate motivator for Gladstone league stars Kody House and Chelsea Baker in tonight's State of Origin.

Tonight is the inaugural Harvey Norman Queensland Women's State of Origin, and rugby league players House and Baker will be taking part in sporting history.

House and Baker have been in camp preparation and look forward to the challenge to take on the Blues in Sydney.

"I'm interchange and training as a utility player as second row, possibly front row,” House said.

"We're getting a little bit of mongrel back and get a bit of pride and passion in the jersey for tonight's game.”

Baker was looking forward to tonight's State of Origin as fullback and hoping to do only one kick-off and plenty of try conversions.

"Always excited playing in the Queensland jersey and as fullback,” Baker said.

"The players are good and everyone's relaxed.”

The two rivals played previously in the Interstate Challenge and tonight it will be the Holden Women's State of Origin to kick off a new era in elite women's sport.

House said it was good to have former Origin legend and international Jason Hetherington as the team's coach.

Queensland coach Hetherington was looking forward to the game and the excitement it always provides.

"We are playing in Sydney in enemy territory and it will be a very exciting game,” Hetherington said.

"This has been a great learning curve for the younger players and a wonderful camp atmosphere.

"The players will have good aggression and how to deal with preparing for the game not too early or too late.”

Former Queensland State of Origin great Cooper Cronk was on hand to officially hand out the jerseys to the maroon players.

The match kicks off at 7.30pm and will be live on Nine from North Sydney oval.
