High-calibre field for Australia Day awards

THIRTY-SEVEN nominations have been received for the Gladstone region Australia Day Awards.

Gladstone Mayor Gail Sellers has praised the community response to the 2015 awards, and congratulated nominees on their achievements.

Award nominations closed in early November, with nominations received across eight award categories.

Thirty people were nominated for awards, and there were seven nominations in the community event or initiative category.

"The calibre of award nominees is impressive and all nominees are congratulated and thanked for their valuable contributions to the Gladstone region," Cr Sellers said.

Award categories include Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Arts and Culture Award; Senior Sportsperson Award; Young Sportsperson Award; Sports Official Award; Community Volunteer Award; and Community Event or Initiative Award.

Winners will be announced at a public Australia Day Awards ceremony at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre on January 25.
