Hey Dad star testifies he is innocent of sex assault charges

FORMER Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes had denied all allegations he sexually or indecently assaulted young girls.

The 65-year-old denied he sexually assaulted a young girl lying in bed or that he told a young girl to swim between his legs while his penis was exposed and then trapped her by closing his legs.

The Daily Telegraph reported Hughes also denied acting inappropriately on the set of the popular Aussie sitcom but testified there was nothing wrong with walking around rehearsals in his underwear.

He told his lawyer Greg Walsh he did not think that behaviour was inappropriate, saying that it was normal on the set of a TV show.

Hughes also denied exposing himself to a female on the show, tickling her and touching her breast.

"I did not," he said.

Hughes is charged with 11 offences against girls aged six to 15 in the 1980s and 1990s.

The trial continues.
