Here's what's on in the Gladstone region this weekend

PUBS AND CLUBS, MOVIES

LOOKING for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend? Here's a rundown of some of the events and activities available.

FRIDAY:

Harbour City Swim Meet

GLADSTONE Gladiators Swimming Club is hosting the Harbour City Swim Meet this Australia Day long weekend at the Gladstone Aquatic Centre.

Residents are welcome to come down for an action packed weekend of swimming and support upcoming local talent.

The swim meet begins at 5pm on Friday and concludes on Sunday.

Sugarcane Collins performance

FROM the far north of Australia but with his musical roots embedded in the deep south of the USA, Sugarcane Collins is a one of a kind singer-songwriter-guitarist.

Inspired by the slashing delta blues of Charley Patton and Son House, the sparkling ragtime of Blind Blake and the powerful songster traditions of Leadbelly, Sugarcane sings passionately with a voice that is big and soulful, writes songs that are potent and rich with imagery and he spanks the guitar like no one else around.

Sugarcane will perform at the Rocky Glen Hotel on Friday from 8pm.

He shared some insight of himself in a Q&A with The Observer ahead of his gigs in the region here.

SATURDAY:
