LOOKING for something to do in the Gladstone region this weekend? Here's a rundown of some of the events and activities available.

FRIDAY:

Country music campout

THE usually quiet Boyne Valley will come alive this weekend as country music fans congregate to enjoy great music and good company in an informal atmosphere.

The Boyne Valley Country Music Campout will begin at the Boyne Valley Discovery Centre in Ubobo on Friday at about 6pm with a jam session around the campfire.

Saturday's festivities will start at about 9am and include an open mic day, as well as a night concert featuring local talent, Kate Leahy, Adi Burgess and Bill Chambers.

The campout will conclude on Sunday with a bush poets breakfast. For fees and contact information visit here.

Inaugural Calliope carols event

THE Calliope Community Carols and Christmas Night Markets get underway in Stirrat St, Calliope on Friday, with the market beginning at 4pm and the carols at 7pm.

Hosted by Calliope Anglican Church, the event will include  a tasty sausage sizzle, drink stalls, glow sticks, safe glow candles, Indian curry, multi raffle draws and a family fair and market stalls.

Playtime in the Park

PLAYTIME in the Park is held each month with face painting, arts, toddler gym, water play, books, bubbles, playdough and more.

Everyone is invited to play and learn about the children's services available in the Gladstone region. Those attending should take morning tea, hat and water.

The event is hosted by GAPDL and Gladstone Women's Health. Young People's Librarian Bettina will be in attendance.

This month's playtime will be held in Hazelbrook Park, Calliope, from 10am to noon. Phone 4972 1184 for details.

SATURDAY:

Gymnastics movie screening

REVOLUTION GymSports are showing an Australian-made gymnastics movie called A Second Chance on Saturday night from 7pm at 4 Dennis St in Boyne Island.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

People should take a blanket or chair to sit on for the outdoor movie night.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia have launched a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am-8am at Lions Park.

Ulysses Motorcycle Club Christmas Toy Run

RESIDENTS are invited to attend the annual Ulysses Motorcycle Christmas Toy Run in aid of the Salvation Army on Saturday.

A donation of a non-perishable item or toy is appreciated, and participants will be entered into a lucky draw.

All riders are requested to be at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens by 9.30am for a 10am start. Pillions must be at least 8-years-old and able to reach footrests.

Head trackside for charity race day

FASHION, raising funds for charity and a great day of horse racing will be the mix at the Rosella Park School Charity Day on Saturday.

Gates will open at 11am for the Gladstone Turf Club horse racing meet at Ferguson Park, with the first races starting at 1pm.

General admission tickets cost $15 at the gate.

Thangool Christmas markets

BRING the family to the annual Thangool Christmas Markets on Saturday to enjoy a variety of stalls, ham wheel, hot food and cold drinks.

Santa is set to make an appearance to wish children a merry Christmas.

The event is set to run from 4pm until late at 1 Burnett Hwy in Thangool.

Project We Care Christmas Party

THE Project We Care Christmas Party will be held at the GPC Social Club in Lord St from 6.30pm.

The project is designed to help prevent youth suicide by training suicide intervention counsellors and funding school-based suicide intervention programs.

The event will feature live entertainment, finger food, an auction, raffle and drinks for sale. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased from a local Rotarian or from Individual Home Loans in Tank St, Gladstone.

Calliope River Historical Markets

THE country markets are held at the Calliope River Historical Village on the banks of the Calliope River, Bruce Highway.

With its shady trees and birdlife, 26km west of Gladstone, the site is a unique one for markets.

The markets run from 7am to 1pm, and the Clyde Hotel is licensed on market days. The variety of food and drink stalls cater for the needs of hungry and thirsty visitors. 

Cedar Galleries farmers markets

FARMERS Markets are held every Sunday at Cedar Galleries. The markets provide locally grown fresh produce, various market stalls, rides and jumping castles for the kids.

Come along for breakfast or coffee and cake at the cafe, and don't forget to say hi to the popular alpacas.

The markets run from 8am to noon at 49544 Bruce Hwy, Benaraby.

Orthodox church service

FATHER Dimitri and Chanter Dimitri from the St George Church in Brisbane will be conducting Orthodox Liturgies on Sunday from 6.30pm at the Saint Peters Anglican Church on J Hickey Avenue in Gladstone.

The service, sponsored by the Greek community of Gladstone, is open to all and the divine liturgies will commence at 6.30pm and holy communion will be offered.

The liturgy is spoken in both the Greek and English language for the better understanding of the congregation.

Sunday session at Yachties

END your weekend with a Sunday session in the Yachties Beer Garden at Gladstone Yacht Club from 2.30pm to 6pm.

There will be live music from Dvanti, plus great drink specials.

Start festive season with carols

THE arrival of the first of December signals the start of the Christmas season for many and what better to celebrate than heading along to an evening of carols in Boyne Island.

Boyne Tannum Lions Annual Carols by Candlelight event is scheduled for Sunday at Bray Park and will include performances by the five schools in Tannum Sands, Boyne Island and Benaraby.

The program will start at 5pm, with a sausage sizzle, drinks and glow sticks for sale, followed by a visit from Santa; Carols will start at 6pm. More information here.
