Movie session for parents and kids 

MUMS, dads and bubs are invited to come along to the Gladstone cinemas to attend a child-friendly event at 9.30am.

Ticket are $8 or $20 for Gold room. The lights will be left on and dimmed and the sound is lowered  Visit the website for more information. 

Playtime in the Park

PLAY time for children will be held at Boyne Island from 10am to noon, with activities including face painting, arts, story time, toddler gym, water play, books, bubbles, playdough and more.

Playtime in the Park is held in a different location each month, and everyone is invited to play and learn about children's services available in the Gladstone region.

Those attending should take morning tea, a hat and water. The park is at 10 Hayes Avenue, Boyne Island.


Charity race day

THE Past Brothers Junior Rugby League Football Club will host its annual fundraising race day event at Ferguson Park racecourse, Gladstone.

There will be six live races, auctions, raffles, lucky door prizes and fashions on the field, with prizes for the best dressed male, female and couple.

Tickets are $75 per person and include a two course meal and beer, wine or soft drink on arrival.

Crazy costume family fun day

BOYNE Tannum Golf Club and Tink's Wish List are having a special Crazy Costume Family Fun Golf Day in aid of local girl Shontae Denniss, who is suffering from Rett Syndrome.

The family fun day is a two-person ambrose, 13 hole comp which will also include raffles, face painting, jumping castle and special appearance by Dora the Explorer, Pepper Pig and Minions.

Entry is $15 for club members and $35 for non-members. Registrations open at 9.30am for a 10am shotgun start.

All funds raised will assist Shontae's family to purchase a much-needed car with wheelchair access.

The golf club is on Jacaranda Drive, Boyne Island.

Watch a movie under the stars

RELAX and enjoy a movie under the stars at CQ Starlight Cinemas' monthly free family event.

Each month the outdoor cinema shows a different family movie for everyone to enjoy. June's feature movie is Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2.

Food, drinks and a bar service will be operating, as well as a jumping castle for the kids. Don't forget to take chairs and blankets.

The movie will be shown at Blain Park (Junior Brothers Rugby League Ground) on Blain Park Rd. Follow the signs off Callemondah Drive. Gates open at 5pm for a 6pm start.

Meet basketball star Derek Rucker

BASKETBALL fans will have the chance to meet Port City Power coach and basketball legend Derek Rucker at Park Street News and Gifts, at the Night Owl Centre, from 11.30am to 1.30pm.

There also will be school holiday fun with a sausage sizzle and prizes to be won.

Shades of Green gemstone seminar

GECKO Valley Winery is hosting the Shades of Green gemstone seminar with presenter Miranda Manifold.

The collection on diplay will include natural green diamonds, emeralds, garnets, sapphires and green tourmaline.

Gems will be available to purchase, with some pieces already designed into a jewellery piece.

Appointments with Miranda to design and make one of a kind pieces are available between Friday and Monday.

St Peter's Celebration Day

ST Peters Celebration day will be held from 9am to 1pm.

Celebrate with a sausage sizzle, jumping castle, face painting and market stalls with plants, produce and craft.

A colouring competition will be held for primary school students, with entries to be in by noon on the day.

There will also be a mega shed sale from 7am to 1pm with new and quality furniture, general household items, clothing and toys.

Calliope campdraft

THERE will be plenty of skilled horse riding at the Calliope Showgrounds this weekend with the Calliope Gold Goblet Campdraft on Saturday and Sunday.

There is plenty of prize money up for grabs, and more than 700 riders from across central Queensland competing.

The action gets underway at 6am each day.

There will be a bar, entertainment and a hot meal offered on Saturday night.

Roller derby action

GLADSTONE will host a Malice in Wonderland roller derby double header at Gladstone PCYC, featuring local team the Harbour City Hustlers taking on Paradise City Lightning from Surfers Paradise.

As well as the twisted Alice in Wonderland theme, there will be a live band, licensed bar, food, a bake sale and two brutal derby bouts.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 13, available at the door. Doors open at 4.30pm and the Hustlers play at 7pm.

Grab a bargain at Endeavour sale

THE Endeavour Foundation will hold an in-store sale from 9am-2pm.

Manchester, jewellery, fashion and accessories will start at $1. There will be lucky door prizes and a $50 in-store voucher for anyone who spends over $20.

The Endeavour Foundation provides services to people with a disability. The store is located at 167 Auckland St. 

Time to get crafty

CALLIOPE Crafty Capers is getting the party started for the school holidays with a range of activities for kids aged five years and over.

All workshops include a light snack and drink. 

A skateboard graphic design workshop will be held on Saturday from 9am to noon, for children aged five to 12 years.

Have an adventure in the country at car rally

PEOPLE looking for a day of adventure, mystery and fun can take their car or four-wheel-drive and join in the Wowan Observation Novelty Car Rally.

The event starts at noon, with assembly taking place at the back of the Wowan Commercial Hotel, 9 Pheasant Creek Rd, Wowan.

The rally will begin at 1pm. Entry is $10 per car.

Participants will collect their first sheet with tracks/roads and questions to answer along the journey.

At each checkpoint they will be given further instructions and questions. Drinks will be available at these stops.

Points will be awarded and lost for questions, speeding or tacking the wrong track.

The best themed car will win a prize.

Organic Growers Garden Club meeting

THE Port Curtis Organic Growers Garden Club will meet from 1.30pm to 4pm.

All keen vegetable, herb and fruit gardeners are welcome. Visitors are asked to take a chair, coffee cup, a healthy snack to share for afternoon tea, and any fresh or bottled produce they wish to sell, swap or give away.

Library Square Markets

HELD in the heart of Gladstone's Central Business District at Library Square, Gladstone residents and visitors can purchase fresh produce, handmade arts and crafts and much more.

When you're done at the markets, there are a number of restaurants and cafes in the area to tempt your tastebuds.

The markets run from 7am to noon.

Get fit with Parkrun

STOCKLAND Gladstone and Parkrun Australia faciliate a unique, community run program that provides free weekly timed 5km running events for people of all ages and abilities every Saturday morning from 7am - 8am at Lions Park.

Open mic event at Agnes Water

THE Agnes Water Surf Life Saving Club (Beach Break Bar) is holding an acoustic session on Sunday from noon to 3pm, for budding musos to try their hand at performing in front of an audience.

Organised by "Mad Hat" Maurie Nicholson, the event is all about having a go.

Bob Gammage will also be doing an artscape piece where the public can add a brushstroke, and the Discovery Coast Markets will be on at the SES grounds.

A happy-hour lunch deal is on offer from 11.30am.

Learn how to make lip balm

A WORKSHOP teaching participants to create their own affordable, customised lip balms from natural, chemical-free ingredients will be held at Agnes Water.

The workshop will run from 2pm to 3.30pm, and it is a practical, hands-on experience in the process, technique and production of three pots of homemade lip balm.

Cost is $15 which includes all materials and tea/coffee.

The workshop is being held at the Latino Cafe, corner Round Hill Rd and Captain Cook Drive, Agnes Water.

THE Discovery Coast Markets are held on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, and every Sunday during school holidays, at the SES Grounds on Captain Cook Dr between Agnes Water and Seventeen Seventy.

Come and browse the arts and crafts, bric-a-brac and fresh produce available for purchase.

The markets are open from 8am until noon.
