Tickets available for race day

THERE will be plenty of ‘fine fillies’ lining up for this year’s Cox Plate Ladies Race Day.

The only race day event of its kind celebrated in Boyne Island and Tannum Sands, the annual Cox Plate Ladies Race Day will this year celebrate its fourth anniversary when it bolts from the barriers of the Boyne Tannum Community Centre next Saturday, October 23.

With tickets still available for the big day, the bookie’s tip is to get in before Wednesday’s closing date to secure your spot at this year’s event.

Hosted by the Tannum Sands Rugby League Club, the event will run from 11am to 6pm and feature plenty of prize giveaways including a fantastic lucky door prize of a dinner party for eight at Scottie’s Bar and Restaurant.

Club treasurer and event organiser Lynette Morgan said it really was a good fun day out for the girls which has gained strong support from the community over past years.

Ms Morgan said a highlight of the event was the running of the Tannum Sands Cup where women could bid on their own hobby horse to be raced on the day.

“It’s been a sell-out event over the past three years and is an opportunity for the women to get dressed up and enjoy the races without being trackside,” Ms Morgan said.

“This year LJ Hooker Boyne Tannum has come on board as our major sponsor.”

Tickets cost $60 each or can be booked in a table of 10. The price includes a two-course buffet lunch, complimentary champagne on arrival, entry into the lucky door prize, raffles, games and live entertainment by soloist Chris Bax.

There will also be sweeps, screening of the race, a Calcutta, fashion parade by Saltt Clothing and prizes awarded to the best dressed and best hat.

For ticket bookings phone Melinda Green on 0450 179 673 or Saltt Clothing on 4973 7070.
