IF IT wasn't for the RACQ Capricornia Rescue Helicopter Service, Sarah Cann could have given birth to her first child while camping on Masthead Island.

Mrs Cann was camping there on Wednesday with her husband Louis and some friends where she went into labour at 29 weeks pregnant.

"I figured it was labour when the contractions were pretty close together," she said.

"Thankfully we called Capricorn rescue team.

The Brisbane marketing executive was calmed by her friends who were "experienced mothers" and the knowledge medical support was on the way.

Mrs Cann gave birth to Ziggy at Rockhampton Hospital 20 minutes after leaving the helicopter and was then flown to Royal Women's Hospital in Brisbane.

"(Ziggy) is breathing well with a bit of oxygen support and doctors say he is healthy and hopefully that continues," she said.
