HELENA and Vikki are "twinning" after securing a spot in the My Kitchen Rules finals.

The sisters will cook in Monday's semi-final against mums Bree and Jessica after earning the second highest score of the reality cooking show's ultimate instant restaurants round last night.

Their success came at the expense of Tassie university students Thalia and Bianca, who were eliminated.

Helena and Vikki's ultimate instant restaurant wasn't without its dramas, though.

A last-minute dash to the shops to buy baby octopus put Helena in a downward spiral of self-doubt.

But the sisters managed to serve up two tasty entrees inspired by their Greek heritage.

"What you served me is definitely a surprise," judge Pete Evans said of their prawns.

"This to me is a celebration. It's a celebration of your heritage and a celebration of produce.

"This is a confident dish, (I'm) very happy."

Fellow judge Manu Feildel enjoyed his braised octopus, although he wanted more of it amongst the flavoursome sauce.

"It doesn't look amazing, but tastes fantastic," Feildel said.

"The flavours you got in there were to die for."

The Greek girls stepped out of their comfort zone with their Portugese-inspired quail dish, and the risk mostly paid off.

Neither of their main courses hit the highs of their entrees.

"Whatever you did to the quail, even though you haven't cooked it often, you should continue because that was cooked to perfection," Feildel said.

"I love the spice rub you put on, but I thought it was missing something. I felt like it was a little dry."

And their grandmother's bean recipe outshone their rack of lamb.

"The lamb was cooked well but I don't' think it was cooked as well as it could have been… the highlight was those beans," Evans said.

"You were close but I think if you had taken two steps back… it would have been a joy."

Things only got worse in the final course of the night.

Their traditional Galaktoboureko dessert was a mouthful to say, but not such a pleasure to eat.

"I've had this dessert a few times so I do know what to expect and what I got was a bit far from what I expected," Feildel said.

"What I love most on this plate is the ice cream."

Evans declared their hazelnut mousse cake his least favourite dish of the night.

"The thing I like about your dessert is the chocolate mousse… but I'm struggling to find the hazelnut flavour in there," he said.

But Helena and Vikki still managed to score better than all of the other teams except for Paul and Blair.

Young cooks Thalia and Bianca made an emotional exit, vowing to pursue careers in food.

"We came with a love of food but we're leaving with a true passion and we just know this is what we want to do for the rest of our lives," Bianca said.

"We feel like we can walk out of here with our heads held high because we worked really hard and we're just proud to be here."

The semi-finals start on Sunday, with top-ranked surfer dads Paul and Blair facing off against lowest-ranked team Chloe and Kelly.

Bree and Jessica will cook against Helena and Vikki on Monday night to determine the finalists for Tuesday's grand final.
