7kg Christmas tree cake a tasty festive treat
WHILE most people bake gingerbread men and puddings at Christmas time, Heidi Mastroianni likes to create 7kg cakes.
Mrs Mastroianni runs a business called Surprise Me by Heidi, and has just baked a hand-carved Christmas tree with fairy lights.
It took her seven hours to bake. Decorating took four hours and baking three hours.
The mother of one used 3kg of fondant, 500g of ganache and crafted 26 tree ruffle layers to make the masterpiece which is 50cm long and 14cm wide.
She loves her creation.
"It's original and that's what makes me proud of it."
She is auctioning the cake and proceeds will be used to buy presents to put under the Kmart Christmas tree.
The auction also includes a family photo shoot by T-leaf Creative and an hour-long massage from Gladstone Physio and Fitness.
"There are so many people less fortunate than us and it's not often I give back to the community but I wanted to," Mrs Mastroianni said.
The cake is currently sitting at a bid of $500.
The auction closes on Sunday at noon, with bidders welcome on the Surprise Me by Heidi Facebook page.
