Heart attack claimed Kevin on swim back to boat at Curtis

AN autopsy has revealed Rockhampton's Kevin Garner died of a massive heart attack while swimming off Curtis Island.

The 58-year-old had been out on a fishing trip at Curtis Island when he swam to his anchored boat offshore, but didn't make it.

Kevin's sister-in-law Daphnejean Finnegan told The Morning Bulletin that the autopsy revealed a heart attack claimed Kevin's life.

Kevin's ex-wife Tammy Garner spoke highly of her former husband, saying that he was "a great guy who would help anybody out".

The labourer, who worked for the railway for 25 years, died last Saturday.

Meanwhile, the family has endured a tough few months, with Kevin's nephew in hospital. Jamie Manuele has spent months in a Brisbane Hospital after suffering swelling to his brain.

Jamie was recently transferred to Rockhampton Hospital.
