BUCKETLOADS of water were dumped on Gladstone TAFE's oval during the week, which had most little athletics kids planning a different activity for Saturday morning.

They awoke, though, to perfect conditions and a track which showed little sign of the wet weather.

The sunny morning justified the decision by Gladstone Little Athletics president John Sherriff to hold off on cancelling the day.

Surprisingly, a healthy amount of athletes were throwing, running and jumping with all their might in quite a nice competitive environment.

The return of many families to start school next week helped the athletes, as well as the pending regional championships on February 7 and 8.

Despite the humidity, performances were good in all disciplines.

Smiles were also numerous, kids shaking off the shackles of rain which had hampered outdoor activity for a number of days.
