Headspace here by end of next year

MENTAL health service Headspace will be operating in Gladstone by December 2015.

The timeframe was announced at yesterday's Gladstone Regional Council meeting.

"This is a real win for Gladstone ... we didn't expect to get it so quickly," Cr Maxine Brushe said.

Headspace assists young people aged 12-25 who are going through a tough time.

The national mental health initiative links young people with local health and community services.

There are more than 60 centres in Australia.

The new centre will provide support and advice on general health, sexual and mental health, drug and alcohol services, employment and education to young people and their families in the Gladstone region.

A centre for Gladstone was announced in October.
