Volunteer focus: Hayley Taylour, Pyjama Foundation
Today is International Volunteers Day, and we're celebrating some of Gladstone's volunteers
FOR Hayley Taylour, volunteering is something she's always wanted to do.
The 31-year-old started giving her time to The Pyjama Foundation in March 2011.
"I became a volunteer because I wanted to give something back to the community," she said.
"I've been a Gladstone local all my life and when I researched online I found this great charity that goes into a carer's home and teaches the children literacy and numeracy skills."
The co-ordinator of the foundation said when she's not working with the charity, she's at her day job or looking after her own kids.
"I work at Chemist Warehouse in the day so the charity works really well with my lifestyle," she said.
"I have a seven-year-old and 10-year-old of my own so my passion really is with kids and helping them develop to their fullest potential."
She donates a lot of her time to looking after children but said her ultimate goal was to work with the State Emergency Service.
But that, she said, would have to wait until her two girls are a little bit older.
