THEY say you can't have your cake and eat it too. But you can with the help of a little bit of technology.

I had my heart set on going to Splendour in the Grass and seeing Coldplay on Sunday night - that was until my wife planned a family get together to celebrate my son's birthday, mine and my brother in law's.

With Coldplay not hitting the stage until just before 11pm, I quickly resigned myself to giving it a miss.

But after someone pointed out that Virgin Mobile was streaming the last few hours of Splendour for nothing, I thought I might check it out.

So last night I watched my first virtual concert.

Sure it was not the same as being there - but with headphones on and a pretty good stream, it was the next best thing.

What was even funnier was watching the comments being posted on the site.

The hottest topic of debate was the camera work and angle changes.

Too many close-ups and super fast switches between shots made it almost too hard to watch at times.

Fans were complaining of having epileptic fits and feeling sick.

Towards the end of the show, as the songs slowed down, things improved.

Not sure if the camera crew were watching the posts - but it seems someone got the message to them.

For my money (okay there was none of it), Coldplay was awesome - certainly one of the most talented bands in the world with melodic hooks that keep you hanging on until the end.

Chris Martin's Rehab tribute to late rocker Amy Winehouse followed by a medley of Coldplay hits was a good way to round out a top show - and by the sounds of it a pretty good festival weekend.

Let's hope the Sunshine Coast can attract more festivals like Splendour.

I promise to go next time!
