TEN representatives from Queensland will feature among the finalists competing in the 2012 National Landcare
Awards, which are taking place in Sydney on September 4th.

Winners from the 2011 Queensland Landcare Awards will join 78 other finalists from across the country, all vying
for top honours at the biennial celebration in Sydney.

Queenslanders can join in the celebrations by going online and voting for their local heroes in the 2012 People's
Choice Award.

Voting is open until 4pm (EST) on Tuesday, September 4th, and the winner will be announced at
the 2012 National Landcare Awards gala dinner that night.

Representing a range of categories, from Education to Innovation in Sustainable Farm Practices, Queensland
finalists include the Gold Coast's BeachCare program, nominated in the Australian Government Coastcare
category for its work managing 12 dune care sites and facilitating volunteer dune care activities to help
sustainably manage the coastal zone.

Another finalist is Australian Government Individual Landcarer nominee, Glenn Baker, who is President of North
Burnett Landcare Group and highly respected in the Monto community for his dedication and hard work in
supporting and promoting Landcare in the region.

"It is humbling to have been nominated for the Landcare award but without the great group of local people with a
similar passion towards the environment such recognition would never have been realised," said Glenn.

CEO of Landcare Australia, Heather Campbell, believes the National Landcare Awards to be an excellent way of
showcasing the breadth and diversity of the amazing work being undertaken by Landcarers across the country,
from sustainable agriculture to coastal restoration projects and everything in between.

"The National Landcare Awards are about celebrating all aspects of grass-roots environmentalism, irrespective of
geography, age or gender," she said.

"Queenslanders can be proud to be represented by twelve inspirational finalists at this level, and I hope they will
show their support by voting for their favourites in the People's Choice Award."
