Hasty train trip costly

THIS young man had the weight of the world on his shoulders.

Scott Michael Paul was sharing his woes with the barman at the Club Hotel in Gladstone on June 26.

Apparently his brother was in a whopping $1.6 million worth of debt. And Paul was very concerned for his sibling.

He demanded an alcoholic beverage, but the barman gave him a fizzy drink instead.

It was all too much for Paul, who decided to catch a train out of here. Police prosecutor Nina Sulzor said Paul was heard saying he wanted to leave Australia.

He ran across the road to the railway line and jumped on to a slow moving freight train. Rail staff safely removed him.

Police later took Paul to the Gladstone Base Hospital. Paul was unhappy with that and tried to leave, scratching an officer.

Paul said he couldn't recall any of the evening.

He was fined $750 in the Gladstone Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
