Handbag with more than $12,000 stolen from cafe

AN OAKEY business owner has reported having at least $12,000 in cash stolen in a bold raid on her Campbell St cafe.

Police were called to Cafe Cecil yesterday after a woman's handbag was stolen.

The offence occurred while the eatery was open, between 9.20am and 9.40am.

Oakey police officer Senior Constable Paul Holgate said the business owner reported having at least $12,000 cash in the bag.

He said the bag had been left on a table in a staff area.

"We are unsure whether they came through the back of the store or the front," Snr Const. Holgate said.

He said the thief fled through a rear exit of the cafe.

There was a staff member in the shop when the bag was taken.

Police were yesterday checking CCTV from neighbouring businesses in search of the thief.

Anyone with information can call Oakey police on 4691 1020 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
