BATTEN down the hatches, the rains are coming.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a hail warning on Friday afternoon for an oncoming thunderstorm expected to bring with it heavy rainfall and large hailstones.

The thunderstorm will mark the end of several days of humidity levels reaching up to 80%.

Heavy rainfall is expected to arrive in the wider Gladstone region early evening, and remain for the duration of the weekend.

If making the commute home during a storm, turn on your headlights and drive at a safe and cautious speed.
